Events are the purpose and lifeblood of our club. They not only create strong friendship bonds, but are the motivating force to put up your sails, and participate as a group in a range of fun and serious boating activities.
Destinations vary between local waters, and offshore cruises to Sydney Harbour, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens and further up the east coast.
Many members have also sailed independently or together in various waters of the Mediterranean and Asia.
Generally events are scheduled bi-monthly during the summer and spring period, and less frequently in the cooler months.
Event Calendar
The Cruise Secretary is responsible for creating the 12 month sailing events calendar, and members are encouraged to take their turn as a trip leader. Some events are very laid back, and others are more complex and require serious boat preparation.
For each event, a trip leader is designated, and is responsible for planning, communicating and co-ordinating the event. At the conclusion of the event, the trip leader provides a short written report of the trip, that is then added to the website for members reading pleasure.
Planning is underway for the 2023 calendar year events. Due to the uncertainty still surrounding COVID-19, events proceeding are all subject to the situation at the time of the scheduled event. The safety of our members is always paramount. Click here for the latest COVID-19 maritime updates.
Social time is fun time
Sundowners are usually held in the cockpit of the Trip Leader’s boat. It’s a time to chat about the days’ activities, a chance to share boat issues or problems, seek answers, talk about travel adventures, and generally enjoy the company of other members.
We always eat well at SYCC events
One of the annual highlights is the SYCC Progressive Dinner, a raft up of up to 15 anchored boats (often in Castle Lagoon), with a foodie theme. During winter, events tend to be more food orientated, such as goulash and gluhwein, or an out and back sail, with a shared curry evening.
Each year there are at least two onshore social activities – Christmas in July, often in regional NSW and the Christmas Party. Others are planned on an ad hoc basis.
Whatever the event, members always enjoy themselves.
